Chief Cornstalk, Adena, and Shawnee Districts are combining to host a Spring Camporee at Kanawha State Forest. A primitive campsite, a good service project in the outdoors, and some friendly scout skill competition await you.
LOCATION: The Kanawha State Forest (KSF) outside of Charleston is the site for this camporee. Specifically, our camping site will be in Dunlop Hollow.
Kanawha State Forest is a 9,300-acre recreation area located near the community of Loudendale, West Virginia, which is about 7 miles from downtown Charleston, West Virginia, United States. It is managed by the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources. The land that is now Kanawha State Forest originally was the site of extensive mining and logging. In 1937, the West Virginia Conservation Commission purchased 6,705 acres on the headwaters of Davis Creek outside of Charleston. The following year, Camp Kanawha was set up as a project of the Civilian Conservation Corps.
REGISTRATION: The registration fee for this event is $15 per person, scouts and adults. The fee is higher than normal due to the rental of port-a-johns at the camping site. Registration is open to all Scouts BSA units. Registration is open until Wednesday, April 23, until 5:00 pm.
CHECK-IN: Check-in begins Friday, April 25th at 5:00 pm. Saturday will be filled with friendly scout skill competitions and a service project to help the Kanawha State Forest stay the gem that it is. Be prepared for a full weekend of fun, fellowship, and service.
