Camp Birch adjoins
John Bryan State Park
Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve
Glen Helen.
Trails connect all these locations. Glen Helen offers a
special Boy Scout trail (5 or 10 miles) with a patch.
Also, a bike path runs from Springfield OH to Cincinnati
OH. The path runs through Yellow Springs which is where all
the above are. Bikes are available for rent in Yellow
Springs. A must stop if you stay in YS is Young's Jersey
Dairy
http://www.youngsdairy.com/
where Scouts can chow down on some of the best ice cream to
be had. If your troop enjoys astronomy, the Miami Valley
Astronomical Society
http://www.mvas.org/
can arrange access to the observatory located in John Bryan
State Park. (The observatory is just steps from Camp Birch's
Dan Boone campsite). There are several canoe liveries along
the Mad River in Springfield. Cave lovers can go about 40
miles north to Ohio Caverns

NORTH OF DAYTON
The
Neil Armstrong Air & Space Museum in Wapakoneta, OH is
another nice stop. It is not as big as the Wright Patterson
Museum. This museum is small, good for a two or three hour
stop. It is about 50 mile north of Dayton, OH. Admission $2
for Scouts, $6 for adults.
