The Buckskin Council Pinewood Derby will be held at the
Charleston Town Center Mall on Saturday, April 12, 2008. The
Pinewood Derby registration will be held on the 1st. floor of the
mall in front of Macy’s Department Store. Registration will begin at
10:00 a.m. and the championship race will start at 11:00 a.m. All
District’s 1st., 2nd., and 3rd. place winners along with each packs
1st. place winner are eligible to compete in
the CHAMPIONSHIP RACE. Each District and Pack needs to verify their
winners with their District Executive and also phone those winners’
names and unit numbers to the Scout Service Center by April 10,
2008. After the championship race, there will be an open race. The
race is open to any scout, Scouter, or Scouter family member who
wants to race. No cars used in the championship race will be allowed
to race in the open race. Mark your calendars; start whittling on
your pinewood derby cars, wear good sportsmanship and Have Fun.

Your unit will not want
to miss the Council Ski Outing. The first one is December 16th at Winterplace. This includes, ski rental, lift ticket, and ski lessons, and
meal ticket. The other dates
are January 6, February 10, March 3. Boy Scouts can work on their Merit
Badge and Cub Scouts can work on their Belt Loops. It is fun for the whole
family.

There will be 14 different Buckskin Council Day Camps this year. We will
be featuring many different program areas including: BB ranges, archery,
sports, fishing and much more. Keep your ears and eyes open this spring for
literature including the dates, times and information for Day Camp in your
area. See you there, register early. A T-shirt, patch, and totem will be
provided with each boys' registration fee.

PHILMONT 2008
The Buckskin Council is accepting applications for the Philmont 2008
Council Contingent. There will be one crew
going from the Buckskin Council with a maximum of 12 scouts and scouters.
Those picked for this contingent will
make final plans in regard to trip, travel, and itinerary. The total
cost has not yet been determined. The dates for the 2008 council
contingent are from July 21 through August 2, 2008. To reserve a
spot please send a $75.00 (non-refundable) deposit to the Scout Service

PHILMONT 2009
The Buckskin Council is accepting applications for the Philmont 2009
Council Contingent. There will be one crew going from the Buckskin
Council in 2009 with a maximum of 12 scouts and Scouters. Those picked
for the contingent will make final plans in regard to trip, travel, and
itinerary. The total cost has not yet been determined. It will probably
be somewhere in the $1250.00 to $1300.00 range. The dates for the 2009
Philmont trek will be from July 20, 2009 to August 1, 2009. This is a
once in a lifetime opportunity for most scouts. To reserve one of
the spots for Philmont, please send a $75.00 (non-refundable) deposit to

Florida Sea Base Sea Exploring Adventure
The Buckskin Council will be sending a council contingent to the
Florida Sea Base for a Sea Exploring Adventure on an 85 foot Tall Ship.
The crew will consist of between 18 to 20 youth and adults. During the
week-long odyssey you will snorkel several reefs as you sail among the
fabulous Florida Keys. Along the way you will troll for mackerel,
barracuda and mahi-mahi. Among the highlights of your adventure is
sailing to a small archipelago of islands, fishing, snorkeling and maybe
each catching some lobster. You will be pitching
in with the sailing, cooking, on-board navigation, star study, and lots
of snorkeling and fishing. If you are up to the challenge, this is the
adventure for you. All participants must be 14 years of age by September
1st. 2009. The dates for the Florida Keys Tall Ship adventure are from
July 20, 2009 to July 27, 2009. Dr. Glenn Harrison will be the
contingent leader for the Buckskin Council. The total fee has not been
determined but should be around $1250.00 per person. If you are
interested in attend this great adventure, please send in your
$100.00 (non-refundable) deposit as soon as possible. We have around 8
slots remaining to fill the contingent.

WEBELOS WEEKEND
We wish to invite you to join the fun of an outdoor
adventure called Webelos Weekend. This weekend is a boy/parent or guardian
experience, scheduled this year on June 13-15 at Buckskin Scout
Reservation at Dilley’s Mill in Pocahontas County, West Virginia. Webelos
weekend is open to any current third grade Bear or fourth grade Webelos
who is accompanied by an adult partner. The fee is $30.00 per person, with
a $5.00 discount (per person) for registration received by Monday, June 5. The fee covers a t-shirt, patch, cracker barrel Friday evening,
meals from Saturday breakfast until Sunday breakfast, and program
supplies. Please register early.

Emergency Preparedness BSA Award is
Introduced
The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is pleased to
partner with the Boy Scouts of America to increase the level of citizen
preparedness across the country. DHS has asked the Boy Scouts of America to
build upon the foundation of the Ready campaign and to help citizens across
the country prepare for emergencies of all kinds.
