100 YEARS OLD is a BIG DEAL
2010 marks the one hundredth birthday of the Boy Scouts of
America and the Buckskin Council is going to have a big party.
What type of party, you ask? How about celebrating by having a
few thousand people camping out on the grounds of the Capital
Complex? How about exciting activities, events, shows, booths
and food all around the Capital and on the Elk River to Magic
Island.
Mark your calendars and start planning now to attend the
100th Anniversary Council Camporee to be held May 7, 8 and 9,
2010 in Charleston. Cub Scout Day events begin at 10:00 am on
Saturday, May 8, 2010. Leaders, youth and families are all
invited and should come to celebrate. Look for additional
information and registration to come out in the following
months. Registration Fees:

The National Scout Jamboree is quickly approaching and
coinciding with the 100th anniversary of Scouting in America it is sure
to be the best, most exciting, fun-filled, safest Jamboree ever! I am
happy to report that the Buckskin Council has reserved two full troops
for the Jamboree so a total of 80 Scouts and Scouters will have the
opportunity to attend this once in a lifetime event and represent
Scouting in the Buckskin Council. The adult positions for the Jamboree
have been filled but we still have slots for youth to attend.
Our Council is currently seeking interested Scouts to
fill these vacant slots. The Council Jamboree Committee is off and
running with a lot of energy, and planning, that will make the
experience even better. We are planning a few touring dates before the
Jamboree to take in some of the local historical sites. Nestled in the
rolling green hills of Virginia Fort A.P. Hill is close to many
historical land marks as well as our nation’s capital. The cost for the
entire trip is $1500. This includes all of the travel arrangements and
participation at the Jamboree. There is a payment program already set up
so that parents and Scouts can budget properly for this once in a
lifetime experience. To be eligible to attend a Scout must be 12 years
old or have completed the 6th grade by July 1st, 2010, but not 18 before
August 3rd, 2010. The boy must also be a First Class Scout. To submit an
application for Jamboree go to
www.MyScouting.org and log in. Go to the “events registration link”
and then to the “Jamboree” link select the Youth Participant
application. There is a $10 fee associated with this process. Please
print off the confirmation and mail it into the Buckskin Council Service
Center with a check for $100 to reserve your spot. Upon completion of
this process you will be added to the contingent and receive a payment
schedule and other pertinent information.
Please share this information with all interested Scouts
and parents as soon as possible. The 2010 National Scout Jamboree is a
once in a lifetime opportunity and we want to show the rest of the
Scouting Community the very best of Buckskin Council. If you have any
questions please contact me, David Leckie, at 304-542-5071. My email is

Merit Badge-O-Ree
Wanna earn some merit badges QUICK?
Then plan to join us for a terrific 72 hour camp at Camp
Roland July 23-25, 2009. We offer over thirty different badges over
three days. We offer some “hard to find” merit badges and we include
many badges that are required for Eagle rank. In addition, we have
developed an excellent Trail to First Class program to help younger
scouts improve their scouting skills and advance in rank.
